At Gamescom Opening Night Live, Funcom unveiled a stunning five-minute gameplay trailer for Dune: Awakening, offering an in-depth look at the highly anticipated survival MMO. Narrated by the game’s Creative Director, Joel Bylos, the trailer begins by showcasing early survival challenges before moving on to first missions like clearing a deserter base, likely set in Hagga Rift. The gameplay highlights various takedowns tailored to different playstyles, offering a glimpse of the game’s versatility.
The trailer also takes us inside a guild base, providing a tour of daily life and machinery like the blood purifier. Players can look forward to cooperative palace-building and exploring vast, varied environments briefly teased in the footage. A major highlight is the first showing of the modular vehicle crafting system in action, where we see an ornithopter being customized with different cockpits right before its takeoff.
The journey continues through Harko Village, revealing fresh vistas that promise exciting exploration and social interactions. The trailer reaches its peak with a dramatic scene of large-scale spice battles in the deep desert, featuring an in-game appearance of Shai-Hulud, reminiscent of the iconic moments from the 2021 Dune movie.
But there’s even more packed into these five minutes. Brief glimpses of on-screen menus, various weapons in action, in-game texts, and a radio broadcasting news from across Arrakis provide a wealth of content for fans to dissect and discuss. The gameplay trailer is just the start—Funcom follows it up with 30 additional minutes of gameplay during Gamescom.
