Better check your stillsuit, because Funcom dropped a hot Dune: Awakening trailer during the first Direct-livestream – called “Survive Arrakis”. Are you ready for nearly two minutes of action on Arrakis?
A lot is happening in the new footage. I love the rhythm and details like how the character’s steps call the sandworm, underlined by the music.
It’s good to see more routine player interactions like checking for loot, gathering resources, crafting armour, repairing an ornithopter.
The infiltration of a base during the night with climbing along cliffs, using a Hunter Seeker as a nice sneaky gadget was one of my favorite moments.
There are many scenes showing the diversity of gameplay in Dune: Awakening like huge vehicle battles in the desert or ornithopter chase fights in the canyons, dismantling a tank with a lasgun on foot, using special skills to “scan” a base, jetpacks for traversal or exploring ecology labs.
I am personally excited for ecology labs to add more variety to the game’s visuals and story. I envision that they can take inspiration from Fallout’s iconic vaults to create a similar experience that will keep players hooked for hours.
Dune: Awakening is in development for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X with closed beta tests ongoing, but a release date has not been announced yet.
