Dune fans, prepare to have your minds blown! At the Summer Game Fest, Funcom dropped an epic new cinematic trailer for Dune: Awakening. Voiced by Paul Atreides himself, the trailer reveals a jaw-dropping vision of a timeline where Paul was never born, radically altering the future of Arrakis.
In this alternate reality, Jessica Atreides follows the Bene Gesserit’s orders and gives birth to a daughter, Ariste Atreides, instead of Paul. This pivotal choice sets off a chain reaction that changes everything. Duke Leto Atreides survives, sparking a brutal War of Assassins between the Atreides and Harkonnens. The Fremen, the desert’s fierce warriors, are hunted down and missing, leaving Arrakis torn by conflict.
And at the heart of it all? The spice, of course! The spice must flow, even in this chaotic new world. Players will dive into this war-torn Arrakis, forging alliances, battling foes, and striving to control the precious spice.
Joel Bylos, Creative Director at Funcom in today’s press release:
“It’s exciting and a bit of a relief to finally share the details of the alternative timeline in Dune: Awakening. It’s the pebble that starts a landslide, and it opens up a lot of really cool opportunities for players to explore when they arrive on Arrakis.”
In our previous speculations, we entertained the idea of Paul Atreides not being born, but we couldn’t fathom the full extent of its consequences.
For now, we invite our readers to watch the new trailer and let the mind-bending revelations sink in. We’ll dive into a deeper analysis soon, but this moment is all about absorbing the stunning new vision of Arrakis.
While a release date for Dune: Awakening has not been announced yet, the game will be available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. Stay tuned for more updates and get ready to shape the fate of this legendary world.
