Funcom is set to make a colossal impact at Gamescom with a massive Shai-Hulud from Dune: Awakening anchoring their presence. Right from the start, they’ll be dropping major content, ensuring fans are swept up in the excitement from the very beginning.
Geoff Keighley, host of Gamescom Opening Night Live, announced via the platform X that a gameplay trailer for the highly anticipated game Dune: Awakening will be unveiled during the event. This announcement has set the gaming community abuzz, as the trailer is expected to be part of a major gameplay reveal planned for Gamescom. Opening Night Live is scheduled for August 20th at 7 pm UK time, 11 am PT, 2 pm ET, and 8 pm CEST.
The trailer might tease what fans can look forward to seeing at Funcom‘s Gamescom booth, potentially providing a tantalizing glimpse into the world of Dune: Awakening. I am excited to see elements such as melee combat, exploration, building mechanics, and the massive, ring-mouthed Shai-Hulud swallowing tanks and enemies in-game.
Adding to the excitement, Level Infinite, the gaming brand of Funcom‘s parent company Tencent, will host a livestream showcase titled “Into the Infinite” during Gamescom. This presentation is set for Wednesday, August 21st, 2024, at 10 am PT, 1 pm ET, 6 pm BST, and 7 pm CEST, and will be streamed on Twitch and YouTube. The showcase will feature a lineup of their upcoming titles, including Dune: Awakening. While the exact details of the showcase remain under wraps, last year’s event included a mix of announcements, trailers, and brief developer appearances. Will Dune: Awakening e.g. be included in the Level Infinite Pass reward system? We may find out more on August 21!
While I expect Dune: Awakening‘s appearance during the Level Infinite showcase to be shorter, given the number of titles being presented, I believe Funcom will offer a separate livestream dedicated to Dune: Awakening during Gamescom or shortly after. This would allow international fans, unable to attend the show in person, to experience a gameplay deep dive from the comfort of their homes.
